PZ Cussons East Africa Ltd fined Sh0.6 million for misrepresentation on labelling of several cosmetics products

PZ Cussons has been fined Sh595,000 by the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) for bringing into the market goods that do not comply with consumer product information standards.

PZ Cussons products failed the test in relation with compliance with information standard KS EAS 346:2013 which specifies the general requirements of labelling cosmetic products.

PZ Cussons failed to indicate the dates of manufacture on the labelling of Cussons Baby Perfumed Jelly; Imperial Leather Body Lotion, Japanese Spa and Venus Skin Care Smoothing Body Lotion.

The makers of the Imperial soap, PZ Cussons East Africa Ltd also gave a ‘written undertaking vide the settlement agreement to in future refrain from engaging in conduct that is in the contravention of the Act”
