Nairobi County Assembly members defied the labour court order and elected Chege Mwaura as acting Speaker to replace the embattled Beatrice Elachi.
Mr Mwaura, Ngara Ward MCA, sailed through after two hopefuls stepped down in his favour. In weeks of drama that followed substantive speajer Beatrice Elachi’s impeachment, confusion has reigned on the holder of the crucial docket.
Ms Elachi fell out with majority MCAs over her perceived arrogance and embarrassment of the grassroots leaders who felt slighted by her move to call in the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission to review what she felt were unreasonable expenditures.
