The Consumers Federation of Kenya (Cofek) is Kenya\’s independent, self-funded, multi-sectoral, non-political and non-profit Federation committed to consumer protection, education, research, consultancy, litigation, anti-counterfeits campaign and business assessment and rating on consumerism and customer-care issues.

Cofek works towards a fair, just and safe marketplace for all Kenyan and regional consumers. Cofek is the current host secretariat for 10-country member Eastern Africa Region Alliance of National Consumer Organizations (Earanco). Cofek was successfully registered on 26th March 2010 as a membership society under Cap. 108 Laws of Kenya. Our members are ordinary consumers and professionals spread across the country who see the need to support and own COFEK\’s vision, mission and values. To enhance its work, Cofek now seeks to employ an experienced but youthful Programs Manager who must be exemplary in ICT and consumer current affairs within Kenya and globally.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Program Manager will be part of a lean but highly efficient and motivated team. This position will be involved in program development; Information, Education and Communication; Co-ordination of capacity building initiatives, strategic workshops and consultations; resource development; maintaining and building partnerships as relates to entrenchment of consumer rights, across diverse sectors, in Kenya.

Primary Tasks:

a)      Support the country-based initiatives on consumer rights

b)      Reporting to the Executive Director, develop and coordinate various programs from design, fundraising, implementation as well as monitoring and evaluation.

c)      Support the campaigns and advocacy work of Cofek initiatives through co-ordination and facilitation with partners and allies;

d)     Coordinate regular communication with partners and allies;

e)      Research and contribute to publications (regular e-newsletters, articles and expert papers;

f)       Contribute to the Federation of Cofek events such as Consumer Nights, among others

g)      Coordinate the recruitment and activities of Program Interns and perform

h)      Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.

Essential Experience:

Minimum of 3 years employment in the field of human rights or a related field. Experience working at national and international levels including working within the NGO sector and a strong background in initiating and implementing programmes. Experience working in consumer affairs would be highly relevant. Strong research and writing skills; Well developed analytical skills and the ability to absorb information quickly; Highly organized, reliable attention to detail and ability to work independently when needed; At minimum, the candidate must be bi-lingual in English and Kiswahili – both spoken and written. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners, external actors and allies.

Ability to work under-pressure, meet deadlines, prioritize workload and ‘multi-task’; Mature work practices, highly motivated, demonstrated sound judgment and the ability to respond positively to mentoring and directions.

Education: At minimum a Bachelor’s degree, from a recognized University, in relevant fields such as Social Science, Public Arts and Law. This list is not exclusive and emphasis will be placed on sound work experience and proven abilities.
